Ī 36-year-old woman noted intense exacerbation of urticarial wheals and facial edema 3–4 hours after taking cetirizine 10 mg.Double-blind challenge tests with mizolastine, loratadine, fexofenadine, dexchlorpheniramine, ebastine, ketotifen, and placebo were negative, whereas hydroxyzine and its active metabolite, cetirizine, reproduced the urticaria. The symptoms resolved on drug withdrawal and reappeared on rechallenge. Cetirizine 10 mg/day was associated with the appearance of pruritic wheals on her neck, forehead, and arms. Ī 32-year-old woman with recurrent idiopathic urticaria, asthma, and metal-induced contact dermatitis had 5–10 episodes of urticaria a year, with pruritic wheals of less than 24 hours duration. ![]() Īcute generalized urticaria occurred in a 42-year-old woman taking cetirizine for seasonal allergic rhinitis and conjunctivitis, which had previously been treated with loratadine.Generalized urticaria developed in a woman 2 hours after she took cetirizine. There have been several case reports of urticaria due to cetirizine. ![]()
